logos + publication redesigns
The Home Builders Association of Des Moines brought their publications in house to the marketing department and needed templates and style sheets to produce them. As part of that process, I updated the logo and publication design for each magazine—and even the main logo once they saw how everything else looked. Since the in-house team had no formal design training, the design needed to be easy to produce, and, in addition, I trained the staff to use the master pages and style sheets. Each publication required a unique look and the Tour of Remodeled Homes had its board making the design decisions.
The Home Builders Association of Des Moines was looking for a more refined look for their HomeShowExpo logo and magazine redesign reflecting the upscale homes on the tour.
The client received 4 logo variations and they narrowed it down to two, both using the same font but in entirely different formats. Ultimately, they chose this version because it had a similar format to the previous logo, but had a more elegant look and an updated, sophisticated color palette.
The layouts shown below are mockups the client okayed before making templates and style sheets for the staff to create the final magazine.
home & remodeling show
The Home Builders Association of Des Moines wanted a new logo and redesign of the Home & Remodeling Show publication. The challenge was to come up with a logo that could also serve as the nameplate for the magazine—so the typography needed to stand on its own and be instantly recognizable.
The Table of Contents and sample feature page are the basis for the templates and style sheets created for the HBA staff to create the final magazine.
remodelers council
The Remodelers Council of Greater Des Moines wanted new logos that coordinated for their council and home tour. They put together a logo committee I worked with, going through a couple of presentations before the Remodelers Council Executive Committee took a final vote. Showing it on the metal was meant to show the logo's versatility, but the committee loved it that way. The logo also stands on its own.
The front-of-book page is a mockup and the photo of a magazine spread is what the staff created with the templates and style sheets produced for the HBA staff.
Also shown are some of the logo versions that were supplied to cover various uses including print—both 4/c and spot color, web and social media.
blueprint magazine
Blueprint is the online monthly magazine for the Home Builders Association of Des Moines. I did a complete redesign of the magazine working with their existing logo. These are mockups they approved and then created templates and style sheets from these designs for the staff to produce the monthly magazine.
