art direction

When I took over as art director of Diabetes Forecast, my goals were to build a team of assistant art directors who worked together to make a cohesive magazine and to pitch our client multiple well-thought out concepts for each feature and department. The key was everyone contributing concepts and critiques and listening to each other. It made all of us better for it and, I believe, made a better product for our client—the ultimate goal.

the redesign

We gradually refreshed the design of Diabetes Forecast over three issues. The slide show below shows examples of how the design evolved over my time as art director.

publication design

The assistant art directors did most of the magazine's graphic design since my job included art directing another publication, but I designed features and departments as well. I spent most of my time on the front end contributing concepts to pitch clients and developed a lot of ideas and work on the redesign. Included below are some of my publication designs and visions for the redesign presented to the editors.

This concept was a team effort. My contribution was sketching out and then pitching which ingredients from the article could be layered into a "burger." Once okayed by the editorial team, I worked with the food team to make sure we could bring it to life.
